Serving New York & Long Island — projects & advisory

Expert IT consulting and project delivery — when you need it done right

From a one-off migration to a full IT strategy, Smartweb's senior consultants plan and execute the projects that move your business forward — and step in alongside your team when you need extra hands or specialized skills. Serving small and mid-size businesses across New York and Long Island.

What are professional services?

The expertise to plan it — and the hands to deliver it

IT consulting and professional services are project-based engagements: a defined piece of work with a clear plan, timeline, and price. Where managed IT keeps your environment running day to day, professional services are how you change it — a migration, a network rebuild, a security remediation, an office move, or a roadmap to guide the next two years.

Most small and mid-size businesses don't have deep specialist skills on staff for every project, and pulling your team off their day jobs to figure it out is slow and risky. Smartweb brings senior, vendor-certified consultants who have done it before — scoping the work properly, managing it to completion, and handing you something that actually works.

We also work alongside in-house IT teams through co-managed IT — filling gaps in capacity, skills, or coverage rather than replacing your people. Whether you need a fixed-scope project, an extra pair of expert hands, or strategic direction, you get one accountable partner. For ongoing executive-level IT leadership, see our Virtual CIO service.

Why it matters

The business case for expert help

A botched migration or a stalled project costs far more than getting it right the first time. Senior expertise on demand de-risks the work and frees your team to do their jobs.

Get it done faster

Experienced consultants who've delivered the same project many times move quickly and avoid the costly dead ends a first-timer hits — so you see results sooner.

De-risk the change

Migrations and rebuilds are where data gets lost and outages happen. A planned, tested approach with a clear rollback protects you from the expensive mistakes.

Free up your team

Your staff stay focused on running the business instead of wrestling with an unfamiliar project — and your in-house IT keeps its bandwidth for what only they can do.

Pay only for what you need

Fixed-scope projects and flexible co-managed arrangements mean you bring in expertise exactly when you need it — without carrying the cost of full-time specialists.

Local & trusted

A consulting partner on the ground in New York & Long Island

Big projects go better with a partner who can show up. Smartweb's consultants and project engineers work hands-on with businesses across New York City, Nassau County, and Suffolk County — on-site for office moves, cabling, and cutovers, and remote for everything else.

We're a long-established technology firm with deep bench experience, not a body shop. You get senior people who scope honestly, communicate clearly, and stand behind the result — the same team you can keep on for managed support once the project lands.

Common questions

IT consulting FAQ

What is the difference between IT consulting and managed IT?

Managed IT is an ongoing, day-to-day service — monitoring, support, and maintenance for a flat monthly fee. IT consulting and professional services are project-based and advisory: a defined engagement to plan a strategy, assess your environment, or deliver a specific project like a migration or office build-out. Many clients use both — our consultants handle the project, and managed IT runs it afterward.

What is co-managed IT?

Co-managed IT means Smartweb works alongside your existing in-house IT staff rather than replacing them. We fill specific gaps — extra capacity, specialized skills, after-hours coverage, or tools and processes your team doesn't have — so your internal staff can focus on the work that matters most. It's a flexible model that scales up or down as your needs change.

Do you take on one-off projects, or only ongoing contracts?

Both. We deliver discrete, fixed-scope projects — migrations, network rebuilds, office moves, security remediation, software rollouts — with a clear plan, timeline, and price, no ongoing commitment required. If you later want us to manage what we built, we can roll it into a managed IT plan, but that's entirely optional.

How is IT consulting different from a Virtual CIO?

IT consulting and professional services are project-based and tactical — solving a specific problem or delivering a defined piece of work. A Virtual CIO is an ongoing, executive-level relationship that owns your long-term technology roadmap, budget, and strategy. Consulting answers "help us do this"; a vCIO answers "where should our technology go over the next few years." Many clients use a vCIO for direction and professional services to execute.
